BE HELPFUL
I saw an interesting exchange on a crowded subway train yesterday that taught me a lesson. A large man was blocking one-half of the subway door on the D Train and didn't move to let people out or in at the West 4th Street station. The gentleman entering the train behind me said said to him as he passed, "Excuse me, sir, you're blocking the doorway - but then you already know that, don't you?"
I am Bullish on America
I believe in American ingenuity and resourcefulness. I believe Americans are the hardest working people in the world. If we stop interfering with the financial markets and let the markets work, we can take our hits, let the bad debts collapse, find a new level, and work on.
Smiles and Laughter Spread Happiness
A few nights ago as I left a meeting at my friend Rick Goetz’s apartment, I heard a girl squeal with laughter. Up ahead of me she had been hoisted onto her boyfriend’s shoulder and he was running as she protested. They both were laughing as they passed by a beautiful young woman listening to music. Their situation caused this lovely woman to flash her own bright smile as they passed. When this young lady passed by me, she raised her eyes to mine and we both smiled broadly to each other at this spontaneous expression of the joy in life.
Whew! Easy On The Cologne Fella
Yesterday on my way to the office a man got onto the subway with us and his cologne was so overpowering that it made my eyes sting. He seemed oblivious to the fact that several of us near him stopped what we were doing and looked at him, wrinkled our noses, and glanced around to see if anyone else noticed. Yet the man pulled out his paper and happily went about his business, unaware of the reaction he was causing.
Save Jobs on Main Street
“I just need a job, any job, to pay the bills.” That’s what the man said when he showed up to apply for one of the 1,200 jobs Ford is offering in Chicago.
